My daughter loves scrunchies. Usually I make them for her using this pattern. I decided that I wanted to play around with different ways to make scrunchies for her. I came up with this easy pattern for a single crochet scrunchie. I think that it will make a good base pattern to create some really fun scrunchie designs.
This is a very easy pattern. It is made up entirely of single crochet stitches, so it would be perfect for a beginner.
Single Crochet Scrunchie
Materials: 5.5mm crochet hook
Any color of yarn
9 inch piece of elastic
To start: Chain 66
Row 1: sc in second chain and each chain across (65), ch 1 and turn
Rows 2-14: sc in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn
Row 15: sc in each stitch across
To finish fold the crochet rectangle in half and sew the long edges together. Next, put the piece of elastic in the middle of the tube and tie the ends together. It can be helpful to use a large safety pin if you are having trouble inserting the elastic.
Finally, sew the ends of the tube together.
My daughter loved this scrunchie. You can easily make it bigger or smaller by adding more rows of single crochet. If you want it to be more ruffled, you can add more starting chains to make the rectangle longer.
Stay tuned for some posts in the future where I hope to have some fun variations made to this pattern.
