I wanted to make a fun little project for the Lunar New Year. I didn’t have a lot of time, but luckily this cute little crochet dumpling takes almost no time to make. My family loves his happy face, but that can always be left off if you don’t like it.

I made this project using Red Heart Super Saver yarn and a 5mm crochet hook.

Happy Crochet Dumpling

Materials:

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Cream colored yarn
  • Yarn needle

Dumpling:

To start: make a magic ring

Round 1: 6 sc inside ring, sl st to first sc, ch 1

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12), sl st to first sc, ch 1

Round 3: (2 sc in first stitch, sc in next stitch) repeat around (18), sl st to first sc, ch 1

Round 4: (1 sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next stitch, 1 sc in next stitch) repeat around (24), sl st to first stitch, ch 1

Round 5: (2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (30), sl st to first sc, ch1

Round 6: (sc in first 2 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches) repeat around (36), sl st to first sc, ch 1

Round 7: (2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 5 stitches) repeat around (42), sl st to first sc, ch 1

Round 8: (sc in first 3 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, sc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (48), sl st to first sc, ch1

Round 9: (2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 7 stitches) repeat around (54), sl st to first sc

Fold the circle in half.  Stuff and sew around the edge.

Fold creases along the top of the dumpling and sew them down.

At this point the dumpling is finished. You can leave it as it is or add a happy face to it. I chose to add the face to mine, even though my embroidering skills still need some work.

This crochet dumpling makes a cute little toy to have around the house. They would work great for kids to have and play with in their toy kitchens.
