It gets really cold where we live, so we have a ton of cold weather accessories to wear. This simple crochet scarf is my go to pattern whenever someone in the family picks up some yarn and says “Can you make me a new scarf with this?” My daughter is really good about walking down the yarn aisle and putting yarn in the cart while telling me she wants hats and scarves.
I have made these scarves with both Big Twist Value, and Big Twist Vortex yarn. The Vortex yarn is my favorite, and I am going to be so sad when I can’t buy it anymore. Luckily these scarves can be made with any yarn that you choose, just make sure that you have an appropriate size hook for your yarn.
This pattern is very easy to adjust to the size you prefer. If you want a wider or narrower scarf, ad or subtract to the starting chain. Then keep crocheting rows until your scarf is your desired length.
This simple crochet scarf is made up of half double crochet stitches worked in the back loop only. This means that when you make the stitch, instead of putting your hook under both loops, you will only place it through the one in the back.

Making your stitches in only the back loop will give the scarf the pretty ribbed design when it is finished.

This is one of the easiest projects that I make. My family loves having these simple crochet scarves in many colors so they can have a lot of choices when getting dressed to go outside.
