My daughter asked me if I could make a spaghetti and meatballs scrunchie. I’m pretty sure she was expecting me to say I didn’t know how. However, I was up to the challenge. It took me a little while to figure out exactly how to make it, but I am very happy with how it turned out. She was very surprised when I handed it to her.
This isn’t a difficult project. I made the spaghetti using a loop stitch. This stitch can be a little tricky at first, but gets a lot easier with practice. I made the meatballs separately to sew on at the end. For my scrunchie I made four meatballs, but you can make as many as you want for it.
Spaghetti and Meatballs Scrunchie
Materials: Off white yarn
Red yarn
Brown yarn
5mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
Hair Tie
Scrunchie
Round 1: (in off white) sc around entire hair tie, sl st to first sc
Round 2: Join red yarn, using both colors held together (switch to a bigger hook for this step) make 2 loop stitches in each stitch around, fasten off
To make the loop stitch, loop the yarn over your finger from front to back. Place the hook through the next stitch, and pull the yarn through the stitch.
Yarn over, and pull the yarn through both loops on the hook to finish the stitch.
Meatballs
(in brown) start with a magic ring
Round 1: 4 sc inside ring, sl st to first stitch, ch 1
Round 2: sc in each stitch around (4), sl st to first stitch, ch 1
Round 3: 2 sc decrease, sew closed leaving a tail for sewing to the scrunchie
To finish the scrunchie, sew the meatballs to the scrunchie.
We were very happy with how the spaghetti and meatballs scrunchie turned out. Now that I have finished this, my daughter is trying to come up with a challenge to stump me. I look forward to seeing what ideas she comes up with next.
