Reusable Water Balloons

Now that it’s starting to get warm, we need some new summer toys. My kids love to play with water balloons, but hate to clean up the mess. The solution to this is reusable water balloons! The blanket yarn soaks up water really well. All you have to do is drop these in a bucket of water, and the kids can throw them at each other and play for hours. These also make a great gift.

This is a super quick and easy project. I can make a bunch of these in an afternoon. I recommend using Bernat Blanket Yarn for this project, because the thick fluffy yarn soaks up a lot of water. It also makes the water balloons softer which is important since the kids will be throwing them at each other.

Reusable Water Balloons

Materials: 7.0 mm crochet hook

                    Bernat Blanket Yarn

Start with a magic ring.

Round 1: 6 sc inside ring, ch 1

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12), ch 1

Round 3-5: sc in each stitch around (12), ch 1

Round 6: sc decrease around (6), ch 1

Round 7: sc decrease around (3), ch 1

Round 8: 2 sc in each stitch around, sl st to first stitch, fasten off, and tie the tail around the previous row to tighten it up and make it look like a tied balloon.

The finished project will look just like a water balloon.

My kids were very happy to see that I had made a pile of these. Now they just need to wait until it is warm enough to take them outside and play. I’m sure that these will be getting a lot of use this summer!
