We are finally getting some snow! My kids were very excited about it and wanted to build a snowman. This gave me the idea to create a snowman hat for my daughter to wear while playing in the snow. Of course the snow was starting to melt by the time we got to take pictures in it, but she was still very excited.
This hat is pretty easy to make. It is very similar to my easy hat pattern, with just a couple changes to make the snowman’s hat.
Snowman Hat
Materials: 5mm crochet hook
White Yarn
Black Yarn
Orange Yarn
Pink (or any chosen color) Yarn
Hat
To start: (in pink) create a magic circle and ch 2
Round 1: 10 hdc inside magic circle, join with sl st to first hdc, ch 2
Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (20), join to first hdc, ch 2
Round 3: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next stitch), repeat around (30), join, ch 2
Round 4: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next 2 stitches), repeat around (40), join, ch 2
Round 5: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next 3 stitches), repeat around (50), join, ch 2
Round 6: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next 4 stitches), repeat around (60), join, ch 2
Round 7: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next 5 stitches), repeat around (70), join, ch 3
Round 8: (bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), join to first hdc with slip stitch, ch3
Round 9: (bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), join to first hdc with slip stitch, ch 2
Round 10-20: (in white) hdc in each stitch around (70), ch 2
Round 21: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), join to first stitch, ch 3
Round 22: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), join to first stitch, fasten off
Carrot
(in orange) ch 5
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and each chain across (4), ch 1 and turn
Row 2: sc decrease 2 times (2), ch 1 and turn
Row 3: sc in each stitch across (2), ch 1 and turn
Row 4: sc decrease
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Eyes (make 2)

Round 1: 10 sc inside ring
Finish off leaving a tail for sewing
Finishing the Hat
Sew the eyes and the carrot to the front of the hat.
Use surface crochet to crochet the snowman’s mouth.
Create a pom pom from the same color yarn as the hat and sew it to the top of the hat.
This hat works up very quick. It is easy to adapt it to any child by changing the color of yarn used for the hat portion.
The size can be changed by adding or removing increase rows from the beginning of the hat. The length of the hat can be changed by adding or removing rows from 10-20.
