I have made lots of hats and accessories for my cats. While working on my last hat I noticed our dog getting jealous when I was having the cats try on the hat. He kept putting his head under it to try and wear it. I decided that it was time for me to make a crochet hat for dogs.
This is a very easy crochet pattern. It is made a lot like my Hat for Cats. My dog is a Retriever mix, so this hat will fit medium to large sized dogs the best.
For this pattern I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn. Any similar yarn can be used.
Crochet Hat for Dogs
Materials:
- Any color yarn
- 6 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
Pattern:
Start with a magic ring
Round 1: 10 hdc inside ring, sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (20), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 3: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (30), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 4: (hdc in first stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (40), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 5: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (50), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 6: (hdc in first 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches) repeat around (60), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 7: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 5 stitches) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 8: hdc in first 10 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in next 20 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in last 10 stitches, sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 9: hdc in first 10 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in next 20 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in last 10 stitches (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Round 10: dc in each stitch around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Rounds 11-12: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Round 13: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next sttich) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, fasten off
Make a pom pom to sew to the top of the hat, and it is finished.
Now that he has a hat of his own, he is a little unsure of why he wanted it in the first place. He looks so good in it, and I will have to be making some more dog patterns in the future. I wouldn’t want him to feel left out!
