My daughter wears her hair in a ponytail every day for school. To make this more exciting she likes me to crochet different hair ties for her to wear. Since her classroom is ladybug themed, it was only fitting that we crochet a ladybug hair tie for her to wear.
She was wearing her Ladybug Hat, and Ladybug Scarf to school, but now that its warmer she hasn’t been able to. She is very happy to have a new ladybug accessory to wear.
This is a very simple project to make. It requires only a small amount of yarn, so it can be made from scraps left from other projects. I made the spots using a French knot, but you could also use beads for them. This is also a quick project that you can work on during breaks from larger projects.
Ladybug Hair Tie

Red yarn
Black yarn
Yarn needle
Hair elastic
(in red) make a magic ring
Round 1: 6 sc inside ring, sl st to first sc, ch1
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12), sl st to first sc, ch 1
Round 3: (2 sc in first stitch, sc in next stitch) repeat around (18)
Row 4: (in black) sl st to first sc, in same stitch sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc, sl st, fasten off
Once you have the body finished, surface crochet a stripe down the middle in black yarn. Use the black yarn to make French knots for the ladybug spots.
Once that is finished tie the crochet ladybug to a hair tie.
Now the ladybug hair tie is finished and ready to wear. My daughter was very happy to see I had made her a ladybug hair tie, and couldn’t wait to wear it. She loves to show her new hair ties to her friends. This is a great springtime craft, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
