Last year I made a crochet turkey hat for my dog. This year I knew that I had to make a crochet turkey hat for cats. I couldn’t let the cats be left out of the Thanksgiving dress up fun.
This is a very easy crochet project. The hat and feathers are crocheted separately before being sewn together.
For this project I used a 5.5 mm crochet hook and Big Twist Value yarn.
Crochet Turkey Hat for Cats
Materials:
- Brown yarn
- Yellow yarn
- Orange yarn
- Red yarn
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
Hat
(in brown) ch 2 to start
Row 1: sc in second chain, ch 1 and turn
Row 2: 2 sc in stitch, ch 1 and turn
Row 3: 2 sc in each stitch (4), ch 1 and turn
Row 4: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 2 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 5: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 4 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (8), ch 1 and turn
Row 6: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 6 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (10), ch 1 and turn
Row 7: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 8 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (12), ch 1 and turn
Row 8: 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 10 stitches, 2 sc in last stitch (14), ch 1 and turn
Row 9: sc in first 2 stitches, ch 10, skip next 10 stitches, sc in last 2 stitches, ch 1 and turn
Row 10: sc in first 2 stitches, sc in each chain, sc in last 2 stitches, ch 1 and turn
Rows 11-18: sc in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn
Row 19: sc in first 2 stitches, ch 10, skip next 10 stitches, sc in last 2 stitches, ch 1 and turn
Row 20: sc in first 2 stitches, sc in each chain, sc in last 2 stitches, ch 1 and turn
Row 21: sc decrease, sc in next 10 stitches, sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 22: sc decrease, sc in next 8 stitches, sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 23: sc decrease, sc in next 6 stitches, sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 24: sc decrease, sc in next 4 stitches, sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 25: sc decrease, sc in next 2 stitches, sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 26: sc decrease 2 times, ch 1 and turn
Row 27: sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
To finish sc around entire hat. At each end attach yarn and ch 20. Fasten off
Feathers (make 1 in red, yellow, and orange
Ch 6
Round 1: 3 sc in second ch, sc in next 3 stitches, 3 sc in last ch, (working on opposite side) sc in second ch and next 2 ch, sl st to first sc, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Sew the feathers to the top of the hat to finish.
This was the new kitten’s first time getting to model for our blog. He wasn’t too sure what to think about wearing the hat, but he loved the treats he got after. I think he makes an adorable little turkey, don’t you?
