It’s almost Thanksgiving and I wanted to make something new for my dog to wear this year. I thought that a crochet turkey hat for dogs would be the perfect Thanksgiving accessory for him.
This is a pretty easy project. The main part of the hat is made the same as my crochet hat for dogs. The feathers, eyes, and beak are crocheted separately and attached at the end.
For this project I used a 6 mm crochet hook and Big Twist Value yarn.
Crochet Turkey Hat for Dogs
Materials:
- Brown yarn
- Yellow yarn
- Orange yarn
- Red yarn
- White yarn
- Black yarn
- 6 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
Hat
(in brown) Start with a magic ring
Round 1: 10 hdc inside ring, sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (20), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 3: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (30), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 4: (hdc in first stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (40), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 5: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (50), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 6: (hdc in first 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches) repeat around (60), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 7: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 5 stitches) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 8: hdc in first 10 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in next 20 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in last 10 stitches, sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 9: hdc in first 10 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in next 20 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in last 10 stitches (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Round 10: dc in each stitch around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Rounds 11-12: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3
Round 13: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next sttich) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, fasten off
Feathers (make 2 in yellow, orange, and red)
Ch 9 to start
Round 1: 3 sc in second ch, sc in next 6 ch, 3 sc in last ch, (working on opposite side) sc in second ch and in next 5 ch, sl st to first sc, ch 1
Round 2: 2 sc in first 3 stitches, sc in next 6 stitches, 2 sc in next 3 stitches, sl st to first sc, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Eyes (make 2)
(in black) start with a magic ring, ch 1
Round 1: 6 sc inside ring, sl st to first sc, (in white) ch 1
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12), sl st to first sc, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Beak
(in orange) Ch 5
Row 1: sc in second ch and each across (4), ch 1 and turn
Row 2: sc decrease 2 times (2), ch 1 and turn
Row 3: sc in each stitch across (2), ch 1 and turn
Row 4: sc decrease, ch 1 and turn
Row 5: sc, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Sew the feathers, eyes, and beak to the hat to finish it.
My dog wasn’t too sure about the crochet turkey hat for dogs, but I think he looked adorable!
