Crochet Pumpkin Hat for Dogs

After making pumpkin hats for my cats, my kids told me that I needed to make a crochet pumpkin hat for dogs too. They said that the cats wouldn’t want the dog to be left out of this fun!

I made this hat a lot like my crochet hat for dogs. It is the same hat, with a pumpkin stem instead of a pom pom on top. It is a very simple project.

For this hat I used Bernat Super Value yarn and a 6 mm crochet hook.

Crochet Pumpkin Hat for Dogs Pattern

Materials:

• Orange yarn
• Green yarn
• 6 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle

Hat

(in orange) Start with a magic ring 

Round 1: 10 hdc inside ring, sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (20), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 3: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (30), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 4: (hdc in first stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (40), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 5: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (50), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 6: (hdc in first 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches) repeat around (60), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 7: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 5 stitches) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 8: hdc in first 10 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in next 20 stitches, ch 15, sk 15 stitches, hdc in last 10 stitches, sl st to first stitch, ch 2 

Round 9: hdc in first 10 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in next 20 stitches, 15 hdc in ch 15 space, hdc in last 10 stitches (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3 

Round 10: dc in each stitch around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3 

Rounds 11-12: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next stitch) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, ch 3 

Round 13: (fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next sttich) repeat around (70), sl st to first stitch, fasten off 

Stem

(in green) start with a magic ring 

Round 1: 6 sc inside ring, sl st to first sc, ch 1 

Round 2-5: sc in each stitch around, sl st to first sc, ch 1 

Round 6: 2 sc in each stitch around, sl st to first sc, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. 

To finish, sew the stem to the top of the hat.

My dog likes wearing hats much more than my cats do. He was very happy to go outside and show off his new fall accessory.
