Crochet baskets are great for giving as a part of a gift basket. They are not very difficult to make, but look nice. I feel like this is a great way to add a handmade touch to your gift.
Holding two strands of yarn together for this project helps to make the basket sturdier. You could also use a single strand of a bulky yarn in place of this if you want.
After making the round base of the basket, this pattern has you slip stitch around the base, then single crochet over that row of slip stitches. This helps to give a sturdier edge to the bottom of the basket and help it to hold its shape better.
Round Basket
Materials: 7 mm crochet hook
Any color yarn
Yarn needle
(with two strands of yarn held together) Start with a magic ring
Round 1: 8 hdc inside ring, sl st to first hdc and ch 2
Round 2: 2 hdc in each stitch around (16), sl st to first hdc, ch 2
Round 3: (2 hdc in first stitch, 1 hdc in next stitch) repeat around (24), sl st to first hdc, ch 2
Round 4: (hdc in first stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch) repeat around (32), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 5: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (40), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 6: (hdc in first 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches), repeat around (48), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 7: (hdc in first 5 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch) repeat around(56), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 8: (hdc in first 3 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches) repeat around (64), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 9: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 7 stitches) repeat around (72), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 10: (hdc in first 4 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 4 stitches) repeat around (80), sl st to first stitch, ch 2
Round 11: (hdc in first 9 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch) repeat around (88), sl st to firs stitch, ch 2
Round 12: (2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next 10 stitches) repeat around (96), sl st to first stitch
Round 13: sl st in blo of each stitch around, sl st to first stitch, ch 1
Round 14: sc in the same blo stitch as the slip stitches in the previous round. The single crochets should be worked around the slip stitches in the previous round. sl st to the first stitch, ch 2
Round 15-25: hdc in each stitch around, ch2
Round 26: hdc in first 18 stitches, ch 12, skip 12 stitches, hdc in next 36 stitches, ch 12, skip 12, hdc in next 18 stitches
Round 27: hdc in first 18 stitches, 16 hdc in ch 12 space, hdc in next 36 stitches, 16 hdc in ch 12 space, hdc in next 18 spaces
